Hold on to your hats, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is embarking on a new adventure. Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the team were not merely transported off world, they are in the future.

At the end of the fourth season, if you can remember that far back, we saw Coulson, Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), Yo-Yo Rodriguez (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), and Mac MacKensie (Henry Simmons) gathered at a dinner. The team was plucked from the dinner and transported to a space station surrounded by an asteroid belt.

We have since discovered the asteroid belt is the remains of the planet Earth. The Lighthouse is home to the ragged remains of the human race.

The space station, referenced as the Lighthouse, is operated by the Kree. The Kree is the least of the problems the team must face. There is also a Vrellnexian roach infestation.

Information pertaining to what happened to the Earth is patchy. The humans living on the Lighthouse, including Tess (Eve Harlow) and Deke (Jeff Ward), have fragmented details but nothing concreate. With the Kree arriving after the Earth’s destruction, we know this species was not responsible.

Despite the Kree not being responsible for what happened to the Earth, they are the ones that are keeping humans in the dark about their history. The Kree did destroy all records, books, and media. Because of what the Kree did, humans are submissive and reliant on the alien species.

Even though many humans are submissive to the Kree, there is a fraction known as True Believers. These True Believers are steadfast in their belief S.H.I.E.L.D. will save them.

That’s not all. There is much more for viewers to wrap their minds around.

If you thought the Framework technology AIDA (Mallory Jansen) used during season four had been destroyed, you would be mistaken. Daisy, based on how well we have come to know the character over the past four years, is always looking for answers. She accidentally found herself in a framework designed by Deke.

According to Deke, based on the information he was able to piece together, Daisy is personally responsible for the Earth’s destruction. Whether what Deke says is true remains to be seen. Despite this point, revealing such a revelation during a season premiere will make people want to hang around from what comes next.

With the fifth season set in the distant future, it is unlikely the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will be around to assist Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy face-off against Thanos. How are the producers going to maintain thematic ties to what is currently happening in the MCU? Will the agents get back to present day Earth?

With so much happening in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and the MCU, the excitement is building.
