“Cagney and Lacey” gets a reboot

Get ready for a significantly different “Cagney and Lacey” to the one televised in the 1980s.

Do you remember the female cop duo “Cagney & Lacey”? Created by Barbara Avedon and Barbara Corday, the series starred Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly as Christine Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey, respectively.

With a teleplay written by Bridget Carpenter, the coming television film has the potential to leading to a fully-fledged television series.

While the original series revolved around two female New York City police detectives, “Cagney and Lacey” has the drama set in Los Angeles.

With the reboot set in LA rather than NYC, the feel of the production will be significantly different to the original series.

The classic police drama “Cagney & Lacey,” beginning on Thursday, 8 Oct. 1981 with the series “Pilot,” ran for seven seasons, ending on Monday, 16 May 1988 with the two-parter “A Fair Shake.” Both “parts 1” and “2” were televised on the same evening.

“Cagney and Lacey” went into pre-production on Sunday, 28 Jan. 2018. While there is no indication whether any of the original acting talent associated with the 1980s television series will play any role in the coming production, there is also no indication as to the identity of the actors that will fill the detective’s shoes.
