THE GAME IS A FOOT … Sherlock Gnomes and Gnome Watson have been engaged by Gnomeo & Juliet to investigate the mysterious disappearance of garden ornaments. With a devastatingly dastardly plot worthy of Professor James Moriarty himself, it will be only a matter of time before the world’s only consulting detective has solved the case.
Scheduled to hit American movie theater screens Friday, 23 March 2018, the John Stevenson directed animated adventure comedy “Sherlock Gnomes” features the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Gnomeo, Juliet, Sherlock Gnomes and Gnome Watson, respectively.
With characters originally created by William Shakespeare and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “Sherlock Gnomes” is the sequel to the 2011 Kelly Asbury directed “Gnomeo & Juliet” and the second instalment in the franchise. The film includes original music written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
In addition to McAvoy, Blunt, Depp and Ejiofor, this second film also features the voices of Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Stephen Merchant and Mary J. Blige as Lady Bluebury, Lord Redbrick, Paris and Irene, respectively.
With Blige providing the voice for Irene, there has been speculation made her character is a nod to the Conan-Doyle character Irene Adler. Even though Adler only appeared in the Sherlock Holmes’ story “A Scandal in Bohemia,” she is the most notable female character in Holmes canon.
