Josh Thomson, Chai Hansen, Luciane Buchanan and Emilie Cocquerel as Pigsy, Monkey, Tripitaka and Sandy, respectively, in the Craig Irvin / Gerard Johnstone co-directed fantasy adventure series “The New Legends of Monkey” (2018)

Co-produced between ABC Me, TVNZ, and Netflix, “The New Legends of Monkey” is not available for interested viewers in these United States.

While Netflix is an online streaming service that provides millions of subscribers with the films and television productions they want to watch daily, there are still productions it is partially responsible for creating it does not afford subscribers the opportunity to watch.

“The New Legends of Monkey” is a quintessential example of a production the streaming service is partially responsible for creating.

In a tweet to Netflix, we have asked whether the streaming service has any plans to make “The New Legends of Monkey” available to American Netflix subscribers. The company is yet to respond. If it does, an addendum will be added to this article.

Based on the Wu Cheng-en written novel Journey to the West, “The New Legends of Monkey” is a reinterpretation of the classic tale.

Like the Japanese production of the 1970s and 1980s, “Monkey,” this series follows the exploits of a young monk, escorted by a group of gods, that undertakes a long arduous journey across an ancient and fantastical forbidding land ruled by evil demons to collect the last remaining scrolls of divine wisdom.

“The New Legends of Monkey” stars Chai Hansen, Luciane Buchanan, Josh Thomson and Emilie Cocquerel as Monkey, Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy, respectively.

Even though the series was reported to have been premiered on Netflix Sunday, 28 Jan. 2018, there is no indication the streaming service will afford American subscribers the opportunity to view the production.

While the first three episodes were apparently made available to certain Netflix subscribers on Sunday, 28 Jan. 2018, the next seven episodes became available one per day beginning Monday, 29 Jan. 2018 with the first series finale landing on Sunday, 4 Feb. 2018.

Interestingly, the reasoning for the first three episodes being made available on the same day is that these episodes were combined and subsequently debuted in Australia as a 90-minute television movie.
